History of ZIBFS
From the Lusaka Branch of the Chartered Institute of Bankers to an autonomous professional body.
The Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services (ZIBFS) was established in 1992 to promote professionalism in the banking and financial services sector. The Institute took over all the functions previously performed by the Lusaka Branch of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London. The UK certificate and diploma examinations were localised in 2001 and continue to attract many students each year, many of them studying full time at colleges accredited by the Institute around the country.
ZIBFS is an autonomous professional body whose objective is to impart superior financial services knowledge and enhance professionalism in the sector. It is a founder member of the Alliance of African Institutes of Bankers and collaborates closely with other banking institutes, including the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Ghana, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and the London Institute of Banking & Finance. ZIBFS is an active participant in the World Conference of Banking Institutes.
The Institute has educated many members and awarded banking and finance qualifications at academic and professional levels, and helps graduates sustain their professionalism through continuing professional development. It administers examinations and certifies qualifications at both levels, and awards certificates of attendance or completion to candidates who complete short courses.
